Newcastle and the North East

My Philosophy

Grounded in empathy, guided by your values and shaped around your unique story.

Meet Steve Richardson a warm and experienced civil celebrant in Newcastle

I believe every person, relationship and family has a story worth recognising properly.

Becoming a celebrant has brought together many of the things that have mattered throughout my life: listening carefully, understanding people, finding the right words and creating meaning around important moments.

My professional journey has taken me through several different worlds. I served for thirteen years in the Royal Navy before moving into consultancy and coaching. I later trained and worked as a therapist and clinical hypnotherapist, supporting people through personal experiences, relationships and significant periods of change.

Each of these roles has deepened my understanding of people, their stories and the experiences that shape their lives.

They have taught me to remain calm, listen without making assumptions and recognise what matters most to the person in front of me. These qualities now shape my work as a celebrant.

Whether I am helping a family honour someone who has died, supporting a couple as they celebrate their relationship, welcoming a child or marking a new chapter in someone’s life, I approach every ceremony with warmth, sensitivity and careful attention.

I do not impose a particular style, belief or formula.

Some people want a ceremony that is joyful and light-hearted; others prefer something quieter and more reflective. Many want a combination of both. My role is to understand what feels right for you and shape your words, stories and personal touches into a ceremony that feels natural, sincere and entirely your own.

I work with people of all beliefs, no particular belief and everything in between. What matters is that the ceremony reflects the people at its heart.

Based in Yorkshire, I work with individuals, couples and families across the North and beyond.

Above all, I want you to feel heard, supported and confident that your ceremony is in safe hands.

Let's start a conversation
